How to Rock Your Goals

Wish you could rock out your goals like it was nothing? Do you struggle to follow through with your intentions? Try these tips to setting S.M.A.R.T. Goals and you’ll be feeling like a rock-star-goal-reacher (okay, I know. Kinda lame. But you know what I mean)!

  • Specific- Be specific about what you want to achieve. Break it down into smaller, bite-size goals. If it is vague and fuzzy you will be less likely to achieve it. If you are too general you will have no way of tracking your progress. So write down specific, small goals for yourself and you’ll be so much happier with the results.
  • Measurable – By setting a measurable goal you will be able to reward yourself along the way as well as stay on track. Ask yourself – “How will I know I’ve achieved it?” Or ask things like “How much weight do I want to lose?” Or “How many pages will I write a day?”  Ask: “What will I see, hear or feel when I’ve achieve it? On a scale of 1-10 how much am I seeing, hearing or feeling that now? Where do I want to be on that scale when I achieve it?” Make it as tangible and measurable as you can so you can track it.
  • Achievable – Make sure the goal is achievable for you. Is it realistic? What might you adjust about it to make it achievable? Is there another goal that you might achieve 1st before this one? Making it achievable or ‘doable’ for you will also make success so much more likely. Makes sense, right?
  • Relevant – What will achieving this give you? Why is it important to you? If it is not that important, you won’t put the effort in. You must uncover the deeper meaning of the goal for you to really go for it! When you get in touch with the deeper importance of it the goal will pull you forward and make achieving it feel like you are in flow with the universe.
  • Timely – Give it a timeline. By when will you achieve this? Put dates next to each goal. It’s like making a date with yourself. If you put it on your calendar, you will be much more likely to make it a priority. Even if you don’t meet the deadline, you will at least have it in your awareness (more so than if you didn’t give it a time frame).

We all get stuck in unhealthy mind-body habits because they are familiar and comfortable. There is a part of your mind, I call the ‘comfort-seeker’ that actually wants you to keep doing what your doing and avoid change at all costs. Do you know why? Because the comfort-seeking mind thinks old habits mean safety and change means danger.
In order to over come the comfort seeker you must connect with your Authentic Sacred Self. You must remember the truth of who you are behind all the ‘programming’ and habits. You must connect with your intuition and your inner wisdom that gets buried under all the busy-ness and chatter of everyday living.

Try these 5 Top Ways to Get Unstuck

and Reconnect To Your Authentic Truth:

  • Slow down – Take a few minutes each day to slow down, breathe mindfully and just notice how you are feeling. Notice what thoughts are running through your mind.
  • Spend time in nature - Take walk or just sit and observe nature it could be in a park, in the forest, at a beach or in your back yard nature is close by if you take time to look and listen.
  • Scribble or journal – Write down how you are feeling. Write about what is bothering you. Write about how your day was. Write about anything! Putting it down on paper will give you a new perspective and often sparks insights. Try it.
  • Speak your truth out loud – Talk with a trusted friend, counselor or a coach. It is powerful when you share what you are feeling and have someone who is open-minded and nonjudgmental listening. You will have your wisdom and your authentic truth reflected back to you. This can allow for some amazing insights and shifts to happen!
  • See yourself differently – This means visualizing what you DO want instead of imagining the worst or draining your energy with worry. Visualization is a powerful tool that takes practice.

Are You Blossoming or Stuck In Fear?

Have you experienced this?

I know I often do. There are times in my life when I could no longer remain tight. I just had to stretch, expand and blossom despite being scared and unsure of my next steps.

Like when I quit my career as a scientist to become a life coach, yoga teacher and earth medicine healer. It took the help of a life coach to keep me focused on the expansive energy of my dreams and vision instead of falling into the restricting energy of fear.

Our beliefs will determine whether we take the risk to blossom and grow.

If we believe it is too scary to try something new then we won’t. If we are stuck in thoughts of: ‘What if I fail. What if I look stupid. Or who am I to think I can do this? Am I good enough? Do I deserve this?’ - we will never dare to stretch beyond the stuck-ness.

All these restricting, fearful thoughts/beliefs keep us stuck in the bud instead of blossoming into our full beauty and potential.

What you spend your time thinking about over and over ends up manifesting in your life.

 If you want something different to grow in your life, you must plant different seeds, different thoughts in the fertile ground of your mind.

As you may know, what we focus on expands and shows up in our life. It’s the now famous, Law of Attraction. Since I spent a large part of my life as a scientist, I think of the Law of Attraction as ‘being in resonance’ with what I want.

Resonance can be described (semi-scientifically) as an increase in amplification (getting louder or expanding) when the an input into a system matches the natural or resonate frequency of the system. We can think of ourselves as such a system where, due to our thoughts and beliefs, we are vibrating at a frequency that is natural for us, our resonate frequency.

For example, when you blow into a glass bottle with just the right force and angle you get a deep sound because your breath and the bottle are ‘in resonance’. They are vibrating at the same frequency.

Similarly, we attract that which is vibrating at the same frequency. This adds to our being, amplifies our truth, and causes us to ‘resonate’ even more ‘loudly’.

A bottle can’t change shape, so it’s resonant frequency stays the same through time. We, as humans, can change our natural/resonant frequency by changing our thought patterns. If we want to attract something different, we must
 modify our frequency. It’s just like changing the dial on a radio to a different station/frequency to be the match to that of our dreams.

Most of us spend a lot of time thinking about, worrying about, what we don’t want. And, magically it keeps showing up. Oops! With each thought, we are vibrating with the frequency of that truth. We are tuned into the radio station of what we don’t want. Oh no!

By changing our thoughts and beliefs, we slowly change the dial, and begin vibrating at a different frequency. The more we spend time thinking about what we do want, the more we vibrate with THAT frequency. We then naturally start to attract what we DO want because we are a match to it. We are in resonance with what we really want and we amplify the results as we naturally begin to grow our dreams into reality!

Drained or Overwhelmed? Try this!

If you are a heart-centered compassionate woman, your health can easily be affected by people around you.
Do you often feel drained by events, people or life in general?

You might think you need to change your diet, take vitamins, see a doctor or search for some other physical solution. Or maybe just a strong cup of coffee or tea. Hum. That sounds good. Doesn’t it?

Instead … I invite you to consider this: There is a deeper, longer lasting solution.

You can fix something on a superficial level by taking medicine or working on the physical level.

When we take it to a deeper level, the healing is more complete.

In yoga these levels or layers are called koshas. Pranamaya kosha is the next level after our physical (annamaya kosha).

When we give our attention to things outside of us (more often than we give attention to what is going on inside of us), we drain ourselves and give our power away.

Feeling drained is the result of being emotionally sensitive to external situations and people. There are tools and steps you can learn that will stop the energy drains. Wanna know what they are?

When I’m Stuck, What Do I Do?

I’ve not been writing here for awhile because I’ve been busy relaxing, having fun, and being a little cranky and unmotivated. Basically I’ve been feeling stuck.

I know. I know. Are you thinking, “But, Rena, you are the Get Unstuck Coach. How could you be stuck?”

But I do. I get stuck. I get cranky. And I get unmotivated.

And, in the end, I know the truth is – my thoughts about my life and the story I am telling myself – are creating my STUCKNESS.

Because – “Thoughts have power; thoughts are energy. You can make your world or break it by your own thinking.” ~Susan Taylor

I know this. Yet I forget and need to be reminded. So what do I do?
Usually a combination of these…

  • Write about how I am feeling in my journal.
  • Go on a walk.
  • Call a friend.
  • Take a bath, a shower or go to the beach - water gets you in touch with your emotions.
  • Coach myself through my 5 ALLOW steps.
  • Ask a friend, coach or my husband to coach me through the 5 steps. - This one is always the most effective!

When we have someone else take us through these 5 Steps, it opens us up and allows a quicker shift.
