Mini Relaxation Retreat Tips

When we get caught up in the stresses of every day life it can feel like everything is moving faster and faster and there is no time for relaxation.

Recently I witnessed this in myself when I was feeling as if there wasn’t enough time to complete everything on my ‘to do’ list. I saw no end to the long list of responsibilities that lay ahead of me. After taking a few breaths and a few steps back to get some perspective, I coached myself into a more relaxed state of mind.

If you ever find yourself feeling overwhelmed by life try these tips:

  • Stop what you are doing and take 3 deep breaths.
  • Close your eyes and invite your body to soften.
  • Release tension by shifting your body and mind.
    • Stretch or move your body.
    • Go for a walk
    • Scream into a pillow.
    • Take deep breaths focusing on exhales, as if sighing.
    • Do shoulder shrugs.
    • Talk to a trusted friend or coach.
  • Look out a window or at a photo or image that calms you.
  • Listen to music that helps you focus or be calm.
  • Or listen to music that helps you release tension. Dance!
  • Remember a time when you felt calm. Let your mind/body feel it!
    • What were you focused on then?
    • What did you believe?
    • How might you bring that into this moment?

My favorite way to reset my body and mind is to getaway for a personal retreat each year. This allows me to reconnect to my deeper self and to hear my inner wisdom. I return home with a clearer vision for my life with motivation and new ways of approaching my challenges.
